Hey Steve, Thank You for being here for us.

Cardio question. When is the best time for cardio? and what do you eat before your cardi session. Lets say some people can do cardi in the am and some after work in the pm.

    Hi bro,

Well, maybe you won't be happy but the best (most effective) time for cardio training is in the morning on empty stomach. This is the time when your glicogen level is the lowest so you'll use the bodyfat as energy for the training not the carbs in your system (because actually there aren't any carbs in your body in the morning or just a very few). Usually I always use some glutamine (10-15 g) and maybe some BCAA (5-10 g) before the cardio but once Milos Sarcev told me (I was working with him for 10 weeks in 2006 and 2007) that I shouldn't use any amino acids before the cardio training and it will be more effective.

The second best time for doing cardio is after weight training when your glicogen level is a little bit lower than normally during the day.

And when I'm preparing for a contest I usually do cardio even before go to bed.

The other important thing is that you should do at least 30 minutes per section. Just my opinion.

To tell the truth, in the last 4 years I undertrained my legs because they grows very fast. For example 4 years ago I did squats with 550 lbs without problem. These days I mostly do just front squats with lighter weight...but sometimes I need more adrenaline and go as low as 4-5 reps during the front squats with 485 lbs. I like the heavy weights.

    Sample leg workout?

    Let' see...

    1. Leg extensions - 3x30 (warm up)

    2. Front squat - 3 warm up sets then 4 sets 12-10-8-6 sometimes even lower reps

    3. Stiff leg deadlifts 4x10-15

    3. Lunges (barbell or dumbbell) 4 sets

    4. Lying leg curls 4x10-15

    5. Leg extensions 4x20

(and I like Hack squats also but there isn't any good machine in Hungary... )

But that's maybe shows nothing...as I said I undertrain my legs...that mostly means lower intensity...these are not hardcore workouts for me. I did the squats hard but after then I just train for shape. I think now I don't need bigger legs. I need better legs. Maybe a little bit more quad sweep and bigger hams but the more important is...more cross striations on my quad, drier hams and much drier glutes.

So what did I do for leg mass in the past? Regular squats, leg presses, stiff leg deads and lying curls with as big weights as possible. Maybe it isn't works for everyone but it worked for me...

    Keep pumpin'!
