What motivates you to lead a lifestyle that is healthy and active?
I played softball on a highly competitive local traveling team for 10 years and varsity all through high school. Competition and high athletic standards were the main focus of most my childhood. When I graduated I decided to not continue playing softball and my social and work life became my greatest interest. It didn’t take very long to realize that not having something to strive for in the athletic arena was something I greatly missed and needed in my life. It seemed that if I didn’t have my focus set in healthy areas, I was prone to getting into trouble and that I was increasingly becoming unhappy with my life and with myself more and more. I rejoined a gym and began training 5 days a week. The difference of those that were training passively and those that seemed to be doing it as a hobby stood out in their physiques. I admired them and began to build relationships with a few of them. When attending my first bodybuilding show, it came to my attention that there was the competitive level of Figure. The women on stage and their physiques struck me with their beauty, femininity, and strength all in one. I decided then that I wanted to find that competitor within myself. This initial introduction to the sport and various sources of dietary knowledge, lifting techniques, and the achievements of the Pros that shaped Figure is what drove me for the next few years. My first achievement was just getting on stage because of the sacrifice and trial and error it took to get there. I was blessed at my first show to also win. I found that outside of my personal life, others believed that I had something to offer and could become successful if I was willing to give the time. I keep focus even during the off-season to remain on a healthy path because there is an understanding that to truly walk the stage knowing that you gave your all, to be satisfied with yourself whatever your placement, it is everyday that counts. Leading others and helping to motivate others is done by example, just as it had been done for me. It’s this type of passing down that the legacy of bodybuilding is built on. But simply, I love it and I love how I feel. That is what motivates me to live the way I do.

Favorite cheat meal? : I love a good steak and fresh salmon. My favorite cheats are desserts…brownies

What do you do for a living…when you get a break from the gym..lol?
I’m a registered EMT and currently attending a Firefighter 1 Academy, that consumes most of my time outside the gym. I’m also a union stagehand working various venues in Oakland and Berkeley, and do some electrical and carpentry work on the side.

Do you find it hard to date and/or be married when training for shows or when you lead a super healthy lifestyle?
I think that if you are hooked up with someone that shares the same passions you do, including living healthy at any level, the support and acceptance are there. Without the support and acceptance you get resistance and negativity. It’s difficult for people who don’t compete to understand what its like as a competitor to make some of the decisions and sacrifices we do, and some people just flat out don’t care for the muscular look on women. I personally haven’t found the right person that regardless of their fitness goals, can share an understanding for mine. Being single while competing has been great, however I have no doubt that it’s possible. It would just take the respect and appreciation for the type of person one must be to practice this level of discipline regardless of what the other persons level of fitness goals may be.

What goals do you want to achieve in the fitness industry?
I enjoy the individual achievement of each show. My career is based on helping others, which I richly enjoy. I think that the motivation others get from watching you overcome and achieve helps them and offers the true possibility that if I can do it, so can they. I hear what I’m about say in almost every interview and sometimes it is said too loosely, which is why when I say that I dream of going to the Olympia, I say it with all the due respect for those that have worked so hard to get there in past years. I want to get to the top of the competitive ranks and be one of the best up there. Aside from competition goals, I would also like to do fitness modeling and be one of the faces that is seen in fitness magazines for supplements and other fit industry adds.

What do you think is your best feature or bodypart? : I think my best feature may be my hair. My best body parts are probably those on

Is there anyone you would like to thank?
I owe a great deal of thanks to Max Muscle, Walnut Creek. Owner Ken Tali and fiancé, IFBB Pro Gina Camacho, have many clients including a few IFBB Pros. Even though I have been at the amateur level and am just now entering Nationals for 2009, they have gone out of their way to pour a great deal of time, energy, and knowledge into me and my successes. It’s difficult in this industry to find those that truly have someone else’s best interest in mind and that are real in their ability and knowledge to take you to the next level. I’m extremely thankful for all of their support and all that they have done to make my winnings and consistency possible
